things i liked this week
it’s been really hard for me lately to find the good in each week. life has been really heavy lately and i’ve been dealing with death, grief, self-doubt, and loneliness. it’s felt nearly impossible to fine anything good in what i have been dealing with, but i still have to try. so, here’s my attempt. this is everything i liked this week
trader joe’s flowers. i went to trader joe’s the other day and i found that they had two of my favorite flowers: red roses and sunflowers. i love to mix the both of them to make my own little bouquet to brighten up the room. i also grabbed some eucalyptus for my shower. tbh, i can’t ever really smell the eucalyptus in the shower, but i like it for the vibe as well.
really long walks. i’ve been going on these really long walks around the city (1+ hours) and i either do this with or without music, depending on my mood. some days, i just want to take a really long walk around the city with my headphones so i kind of force my brain to think of anything else than what is bothering me. other days, i walk around with no headphones — sometimes it’s helpful for me to force myself to sit with my thoughts and feelings and to really identify them and feel them. i like to take in the sounds of the city that i don’t normally hear/pay attention to because i usually have headphones in. this helps me be more present in the moment and feel more grounded.
roasted garlic. lately i’ve been making these mashed potatoes with a whole roasted head of garlic and they’re delicious. roasted garlic is so easy to make and takes pretty much zero effort — you don’t even have to peel the garlic. i just cut the top off so the cloves are exposed, cover with olive oil, and wrap tightly in tin foil. then i just throw it into a 350 degree oven for an hour and i have delicious, almost jammy, roasted garlic for my mashed potatoes.
binging with babish’s new series. i’ve been a big fan of binging with babish for years and he recently came out with a new series of videos that feel like an old school cooking show that the food network used to have. it’s a very laid-back series where he cooks a recipe in real time (with minimal cuts/editing) so you can see how long the recipe actually takes. he made it with the purpose of allowing you to cook along with him in real time. these videos are 1-2 hours and i love to just put them on as background noise. they’re comforting in a strange way?? it’s very casual and it makes me feel like i am in the kitchen with a friend while they are cooking.
this is all i have for now. it’s really hard to find any good right now, but i am trying. that’s all i can ask of myself at the moment. thank you for listening.
yours,
jude
